When you go to shower, sometimes a bar of soap won’t do it, because you might want something more fragrant, or creamy, or that will take you away to a relaxed state ala a day at the spa. You can fill your beauty cabinets with plenty of body washes from the expensive tothcheap, but what are the best buys under $15? I’ve put together a list of some of my favorites, all available for under $15, and included their best properties.
Fight Acne and Get Clean
After a long workout at the gym, you have to be sure you wash all of the sweat and grime that may have built up during your session. Unwashed skin can lead to clogged pores, which means zits and blemishes on your body, such as on the back or arms.
It smells great, but packs a powerful salicylic acid formula to fight bacteria. Neutrogena Body Clear Body Wash lives up to its name. I’ve been using it since college, and I can’t believe the difference it makes on my skin. No unsightly chest acne here. Hate the smell of grapefruit? It also comes in an unscented version. Both are less than $7 at stores like Walgreens and Walmart.
Soothe Irritated Skin
In the winter, our skin tends to be more dry and can be easily irritated, especially if you live in colder climates. To keep your skin hydrated and feeling as soft as possible, I recommend a skin-soothing body wash such as the two below.
Oatmeal baths are a great way to soothe your skin if its itchy and dry, but when you don’t have a tub or the time to soak, there’s something just as good from Aveeno. The moisture these body washes pack will heal your itchy skin and leave it silky soft. Aveeno Skin Relief Body Wash is a gentle fragrance-free, soap-free, dye-free hypoallergenic body wash that heals, protects and smoothes your skin. You can also opt for Aveeno Skin Relief Gentle Scent Body Wash Soothing Oat and Chamomile, which works the same as the non-fragrant version, and offers a calming gentle scent of oatmeal and chamomile tea. Both are around $7.
Stress Relief in a Bottle
Long days take their toll on us, and sometimes, there’s no better relief than a nice shower or bath. For those days, you want something that offers stress-relief properties and smells great, yet still gets the cleaning job done. These options feature proven stress-relief scents for aromatherapy.
Aveeno Stress Relief Body Wash uses lavender, oatmeal and ylang-ylang oils to cleanse your skin and soothe your mind. You can let yourself relax in the shower with the soft and comforting cleanse it delivers. It’s also gentle enough to use on sensitive skin, and for $9, you can’t beat it.
Bath and Body Works has been a favorite of mine for years, and this next pick is no exception. Bath and Body Works Aromatherapy Sandalwood Rose offers a wonderful lovely scent and calming properties. It uses two essentials to bring about balance and calm to you for only $13.
Scented and Sensational
If you just want a fantastic smell body wash that gets you clean and has a lasting scent, there’s a number of high end brands you can try, but the less expensive brands will do just as well. I love these two for a number of reasons. They both offer a lot of product for a bit of money, and they smell great.
Soap and Glory Sugar Crush Body Wash is a citrus-scented body wash you can also use as a bubble bath. The scent combination of vanilla musk, kaffir limes, lemons, kiwi and coconut oil is definitely a great wake up in the morning. It’s only $10 and is available at Ulta or Walgreens plus most other retailers.
Most brands promise a long-lasting scent that doesn’t deliver. I can’t say that about Vitabath Body Wash Raspberry Vanilla Velvet. The blend of black raspberry, plum, vanilla, caramel and amber offers vitamins aplenty, but smells amazing. You’ll catch bits of the scent throughout the day as it lingers on your freshly-cleaned skin.
While soap can clean our skin well, and comes in fun flavors and creamy textures, sometimes body wash is the option you need in the shower. I hope this list helps you out when you need to buy a special body wash for yourself or even for someone else.
